Although the majority of Ivorian films are made for television, some directors are adapting their work to the big screen. These productions, adored by the public, are created in a particular societal context. In 2008, the Office national du cinéma de Côte d’Ivoire (National Office of Ivorian Cinema) and the Fonds de soutien à l’industrie cinématographique (Film Industry Support Fund) were both created. While the Ivorian Ministry of Culture’s policies are sound in theory, they are still far from being fully realised. As a result, at first glance there may appear to have been stagnation and even a decline in terms of the quality and quantity of the films produced. High-quality films are however still being made, in a world dominated by television. This article provides an overview of Ivorian film and television production from 2002 to 2018.
