What are the consequences for Africa?

The energy sector is undergoing a period of profound change marked by what some people describe as the “3D” revolution involving the decarbonation, decentralization and digitization of the energy sector. Africa occupies a unique place in the face of such major change. While the continent represents only 5% of global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, it is particularly exposed to the effects of climate change. Its energy consumption remains largely dominated by the use of biomass for cooking (and that will likely continue). The advent of new electric models influenced by the “3D revolution” is introducing new solutions to the continent through a combination of several innovations surrounding renewable energy, storage batteries, intelligent networks and online payment via mobile telephones.
