France has engaged in in-depth statistical cooperation with African countries since their independence, a process marked by specificities related to France’s own model of organizing statistical information. Over the years, this cooperation has constantly faced methodological and organizational issues, and questions about the efficiency of its bases. For partner African countries, this legacy is both generous and demanding; it may even at times be inhibiting.
