The Phenomenon of “Land Grabbing”

Interview
A Historic Juncture for African Agriculture?
By Michel Griffon
English

According to economist and agronomist Michel Griffon, “land grabbing”€ is not a new phenomenon. However, the 2008 food crisis revealed the massive growth in a land-grabbing movement that may be interpreted as being in defiance of the expansion of the global food. In this interview, Michel Griffon proposes possible paths of reflection on the movement framed by two criteria, namely secure supplies for food-importing countries and secure income for African producers who agree to produce surpluses. In the case of local food shortages, it must be ensured that priority is not given to exports.
