In Africa, biofuels investments are a genuine development issue. Central to discussions about large-scale land acquisitions, biofuels expose Africans and African farmers to several types of risk. At the same time, they represent opportunity in countries where lack of access to energy certainly remains one of the main factors hindering development. Some types of investments may therefore be encouraged, as long as they benefit local economies.
