ICT: New Forms of Political Action
Special Report: Information and Communication Technology in Africa
The Cameroonian Diaspora
By Ruth Mireille Manga EdimoEnglish
Since the 1950s, Cameroonians living abroad have continued to be involved in politics back home, and their methods and organization have evolved over the years. Until the late 1990s, these communities’ political engagement was marked by the growth of transnational political solidarity in support of Cameroon’s nationalist movement and political parties on their home ground, but since the early 2000s they have been developing new forms of political action, mainly using information and communication technologies (ICT) in general, and the Internet in particular.
