Implications for African Ports

With the international economic crisis, the world economy is increasingly shifting its focus on Asia. This trend also has implications for Sub-Saharan Africa, which now does more trade with Asia (be it Japan or India) than with Europe. The influx of Asian goods has contributed to the spread of containerization in Africa: West Africa now exchanges more containers with Asia than with Europe. Along with the construction of new container terminals, new operators (Middle East, Asia) are arriving on the scene and competition is becoming fiercer.
