China is now a major player in Africa, as it has just demonstrated by entering the DRC reconstruction market. Its low-profile presence has translated into hefty financial agreements that should make China the DRC's main development partner, with a system of aid very different from that of the West. More attractive than Western aid policy for several reasons, Chinese aid is based on a different vision of development, but is not without its problems and gray areas.
