This paper summarizes the key foundations of France's Africa policy and its structural evolution over recent decades. It then assesses the outcome of French interventions in several African crises in recent years, as well as lessons that can be learned. It also attempts to clarify African commonalities and disagreements between the Africa policies of France, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
