Women in parliament in Mali

Neither actual involvement in political life nor demographics in Mali are accurately reflected by the relatively low level of participation in public life by women. In a first part, this paper provides a historical overview of women's position in Mali's national politics from 1960 to the present day. A second part outlines a sociological portrait of female members of Parliament for the period 1997-2002.
