Reinvesting in Africa during embargo years was one of the first steps in Libya's strategy for breaking its international isolation. After the suspension of international sanctions, Libya's foreign policy has aimed to restore economic and political ties to the West. However, the relationship between Libya and the US and with Europe still bears the mark of Gaddafi's former policy.
