Water and sanitation: myths, trends, and models

Development policies are generally influenced by preconceived ideas that originated in a very specific context and are out of touch with a complex and multifaceted reality. However, new ideas are emerging in response to misconceptions on water and sanitation. These new approaches better take into account the complexity of urban environments and the environmental, socio-economic, cultural, and political reality of developing countries, and recommend new forms of engagement by public and private actors, both locally and internationally.
