Transitional law in question(s)

By Fabrice Hourquebie

This article explores the meaning of transitory law, as applied in periods of political and constitutional transitions in a number of French-speaking African states, and attempts to distinguish it from related concepts such as transitional law, interim law, or intermediate law. Specific norms (often grouped together under the banner of constitutional crisis law) and unique institutions, such as transitional justice, derive from the meaning given to the term, though its definition does not necessarily resolve all ambiguities regarding its relationship with transitional constitutional law.
