This article seeks to understand and find solutions to conflicts among local communities near a mine arising from the distribution of resources by mining company managers, who take a development partnership approach. Although rules for the equitable sharing of resources are often defined in a formal state framework, this case study of a Canadian-owned mine in Mali shows that a compromise negotiated by local collectives, on a basis of satisfying the needs of all stakeholders, can lead to a new social order in which distributive justice promotes inclusion.
