The aim of this article is to retrace the trajectory of Salafist identity in Chad over time and to identify the dynamics “from within and without” that have led to its construction. Far from the narrative of a “Saudization,” the Salafist faith has spread in a “nomadic” way, through unsupervised entrepreneurs guided by a proselytizing vocation. Climatic or political events have also favored migratory circulation. The Salafist field, which is built on informal transnational dynamics, is also the product of state regulations that contribute to redefining its “repertoires of action” and representations.
