This article uses capability theory to examine the socio-legal-political context of interventions addressing violence toward women and girls in Burkina Faso. This descriptive qualitative study is based on interviews with twenty-nine individuals involved in this effort at different levels. The results demonstrate that the dedication of these professionals helps raise awareness of the situations experienced by women and girls affected by violence, thereby supporting them in making decisions. However, sociocultural constraints, such as discriminatory social norms and deeply rooted cultural practices, as well as gaps in the implementation of laws, limit these victims’ capabilities.
