In the context of the three-year “Hybrid Security Governance in Africa” (HSG) research programme funded by the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Eboe Hutchful, Robin Luckham and Niagalé Bagayoko forged an interpretation that is both theoretical and empirical, articulated around the concept of “hybridity” which they have applied to understand the coexistence of different formal and informal systems of regulation and governance in the field of African security.
