Since the early nineties, Central Africa has been one of the major centers of instability on the African continent. The end of the Cold War and the particular world order that it imposed had the effect of causing internal tensions to surface, leading to a multitude of conflicts. The spiral of war created a system of conflicts due to the very complex relationships between surrounding States. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is at the heart of this system, and has been acting as a battlefield for neighboring states.
