Côte d'Ivoire: Violence just before the war

In a context of "regular" violence, is it possible to distinguish patterns that point to impending conflict, to identify signals and thresholds beyond which violence will erupt and before which one might intervene in order to prevent the worst from happening? In this paper, we discuss this sensitive matterbased on field observation in pre-September 2002 C?te d'Ivoire.
