Large hydro-agricultural projects in Sub-Saharan Africa have recently been the object of substantial development interventions that have contributed to the promotion of a family-based agriculture that is still being organized. As regards water management, land appropriation, and international competitiveness, new regulations led to transitions that are difficult to manage, and hence require further external support. The priority should be to support the necessary institutional changes with all those concerned, and most notably with producer organizations.
